HUNTINGTON, W. – Ohio track and field kicked off the 2017-18 indoor season at the 2017 Marshall Opener on Thursday (Dec. 7) where they fell to the Thundering Herd 82-28. Senior qualified for this year's indoor MAC Championships with her performance today.

FIELD EVENTS In the first event of the evening, sophomore (Gahanna, Ohio) picked up a fourth-place finish in the long jump reaching 4.75m. Junior (South Point, Ohio) wrapped up the field events with a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 15.00m. This performance automatically qualifies Porter for the 2018 Mid-American Conference Championships that will be held in February at MAC rival, Bowling Green. RUNNING EVENTS Ohio's top scorer in the 60-meter hurdles was senior (Dublin, Ohio). Hodge finished in third crossing with a 9.01 time. In the 60-meter dash, four Bobcats qualified for the finals including senior (Louisville, Ohio), junior (Mentor, Ohio), freshman, and Hodge.

Guiley posted a time of 7.99 to take third, Voase an 8.09 to take fifth, Brewer an 8.10 to take sixth, and Hodge an 8.15 to take seventh. In the 600-meter run, Ohio placed third with sophomore (Highland Heights, Ohio) coming in at 1:43.70. Ohio secured fourth place in the 800-meter run with junior (Chardon, Ohio), clocking in at 2:28.47.

Voase finished the 300-meter dash in fourth place after clocking in a time of 46.05. The Opener concluded with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay with Stewart, Brewer, Causey, and Handel finishing in 4:25.77. Center Valley, PA (March 5, 2018) - Senior (Yardley, PA) was in the news twice on Monday being named the MAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week as well as officially qualifying for the NCAA Division III Indoor T&F National Championships in two events, the 3k and 5K, this weekend in Birmingham, AL. Wheeler will be seeded ninth in the 3K with a time of 9:45.08 and 16th in the 5K with a time of 17:08.65.

The National Championship meet will take place on March 9th and 10th at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, AL. In addition Wheeler was named the MAC Track Athlete of the Week taking second in the 3,000-meters over the weekend at the Tufts University National Qualfying meet on Friday evening with her NCAA qualifying time of 9:50.09. This will be the second time Wheeler competes at the T&F National Championships after also qualfying in the 5K during the outdoor season last year.
